UPDATE: The album is out and it is fantastic!! Check it out, give it a listen and buy it!
In a September 2, 2014 interview with Rolling Stone writer CHRISTOPHER R. WEINGARTEN, Bassist Bill Gould said of 2015 release, "Hopefully it doesn't sound like a bunch of 50-year-old men, which we are!" From the 2 songs they have released so far I can honestly tell you that it absolutely does not sound like a bunch of old men trying to recapture their youth. If the full album is anything like the first singles "Superhero" and "Motherfucker," then its promises to EPIC! The record will be a totally independent product — produced by Gould, recorded in their Oakland rehearsal space and released on their own imprint, Reclamation Records (which will be distributed by frontman Mike Patton's long-running label, Ipecac Recordings). The 7th album from FNM is titled Sol Invictus.
When asked about the title Gould said, "The name has to do with the fact that the band realized we were free from our recording obligations. We weren't touring, we have these songs that we were working on — that we think are pretty cool — and why don't we just do our own imprint and kind of reclaim our future, in a way? We own the future more than we ever have." They premiered the first single, "Motherfucker," at London's Hyde Park in July 2014, (Faith No More Motherfucker - London - Hyde Park - BST - 2014 - Youtube) It was later released on a seven-inch in November and limited to 5,000 copies as part of Record Store Day's Black Friday. The B-side has an interesting remix by electronic art-pop sound designer J.G. Thirlwell. Take a listen to the Motherfucker J.G Thirwell Remix.
I for one am extremely excited to hear new music from one of my all time favorite bands. Even though the lyrics aren't really anything special in these two songs and somewhat repetitive, it still brings on this feeling of HOLY SHIT it's so good! It will be interesting to see FNM introduce themselves to a whole a new generation and to see how the fans reaction is Right on! It's a warm fuzzy feeling hearing the vocal styling of Mike Patton with Faith No More. The reunited and renewed band is set to release Sol Invictus on May 18th 2015. You can get your special limited edition pre-order bundle like I did by visiting their merchandise store at solinvictus.kungfustore.com. Also check out their tour schedule at fnm.com. I am upset that I just found out about their SOLD OUT upcoming Chicago date at the Concord Music Hall May 7th. I hope that they come back through the area and that I can get in on the sale. In the meantime if you are chomping at the bit for some new live Faith No More like I am check out these videos from a performance at the Amobea Record Store in California about 4 moths ago.
